Nottingham’s Turning Point set for success

Newly installed LaneWatch ANPR cameras from Zenco – in conjunction with Si-Dem enforcement processing - are helping to minimise the flow of unauthorised road users through one of Nottingham’s key pedestrian and bus interchanges.

The cameras, which have been installed at the junction of Shakespeare Street and Milton Street, and at the junction of Lower Parliament Street and Broad Street, are positioned to enable Nottingham City Council to achieve high rates of driver compliance. They also give priority to a public transport interchange – the Turning Point Scheme.

The Turning Point cameras represent the latest phase in the extension of the relationship between Nottingham, ACS and Zenco, which began with the installation of the City’s digital CCTV image capture and enforcement solution in 2006. This solution includes Zenco’s ZenGrab Capture video management system, which interfaces with Si-Dem and Si-Log, to ensure that contraventions are processed smoothly and seamlessly and improve the public’s confidence in the system through its full electronic audit trail.

With the new city centre hub sites, Nottingham now deploys seven LaneWatch cameras – and according to the City’s Team Leader for Traffic Management Ian Nash, it’s technology that is playing a vital role in producing changes in driver behavior.

“We want as many city centre visitors as possible to use buses in order to reduce congestion and CO2 levels, and make Nottingham a safer and greener City with sustainable transport choices,” Nash says. “Encouraging citizens to choose public transport is more likely if they know that the service is consistently reliable; enforcement is a key tool in achieving this. We’re therefore seeking to reduce unauthorised vehicles on the roads within the Turning Point Scheme by 90%. We’re confident that the technology provided by ACS and Zenco, alongside new explanatory signage, will help us achieve this objective.”
