With ever-increasing attention to environmental issues such as global warming, government agencies with environmental responsibilities are moving to center stage. The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides state and local government with renewed focus and funding. It is a time of change with new public attention, policies, and program requirements. To respond, governments are seeking fresh approaches and assistance, and they need well-run operations to roll out new energy and environmental programs. Well-run operations require: business processes to be performed flawlessly with no fraud, waste or abuse; complex technologies to be modernized; training for workers; citizen outreach; and program integration.

Tackling energy and environmental challenges cannot be successfully done by just one department. It will require integrated solutions and collaboration across multiple programs and departments such as natural resources, transportation, licensing and law enforcement. These agencies need ways to improve both their technology and operations if they are to success in accomplishing environmental goals. ACS offers customized solutions to help environmental and other agencies meet their goals, whether that means improving data management behind the scenes with an integrated Geographic Information System (GIS), streamlining processes for citizens by putting park reservations and permitting applications online, or implementing weatherization programs to help citizens reduce energy costs by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. In fact, ACS' solutions help state and local governments maximize the effectiveness of these stimulus funds for weatherization programs through key services that can be customized to meet the specific approach of each state.
